The privacy phones are de-googled by default. This means that you can’t follow the traditional methods that depend on Google, as in you can’t backup your data to Google and then download them to the new phone (unless you choose to install Google Services, Play Store, and other Google features on the privacy phone – not recommended).
The simplicity of the traditional process means that you are essentially backing everything up to Google, which we want to avoid and move away from. We want to take control of our data as much as possible.
Privacy and security require that you learn to take control of your data.
1.0 What Can You Transfer?
Some of our clients have requested a solution for transferring all their photos and media.
The trick with photos and media is that they are usually backed up and hosted on Google Photos or iCloud. As such, if a person wants to transfer their media from an iPhone or Android device to the Privacy Phone then the best solution would be to download one of the encrypted apps we have listed below:
2.2 Photos & Videos
Alternatively, you can download Google Photos on your existing device, upload the media, and then download Google Photos on the Privacy Phone so that they can access their media.
While it is possible to download the sandbox version of Google Play Store (isolated and more secure than the usual Google setup) as well as Google Services on the Privacy phone, it is best to avoid them unless you deem it a necessity.
Downloading the mentioned apps and services will mean that you can download Google Photos and other tools that can assist you in transferring your data across from an iPhone or Android device.
2.0 Recommendation
We recommend that you treat your Privacy Phone as a safe house. It is best to avoid bringing more data than necessary across to the Privacy Phone, unless you need it for specific functions.
For example, it is understandable that some people may want to migrate their contacts, as it would be needed for various apps, such as Signal.
